Its been a difficult period for David Cameron and his Tory party. The days of polls predicting a landslide election win for the Conservatives are a thing of the past. Gordon Brown has enjoyed an unlikely revival that has occured with celerity and purpose. His status has significantly improved after his so-called 'heroics' saving the world from economic apocalypse, even his ex arch nemesis Lord Mandelson comparing him to Moses! Heaven forbid! But, as the most recent poll indicates, the Tory party still has a solid 11 point lead and reasonable grounds for optimism that it can win the next election. As the incumbent, Mr Brown correctly or not, will recieve a lot of the electorate's antipathy over the credit crisis, he may be the hero now but for how long? As unemployment rises further and people's misery become more acute, it will be Mr Brown who they will want to bring to account. The Tories have shown admirable fortitude and veracity in their economic policies recently: it's not easy to tell impecunious voters that the party offering them tax cuts is really the bad party, even if it is the same party who will quite evidently foot them with the bill at a later date. However, the Tories stuck to their guns and reminded the public of 3 imperative things: Gordon Brown is not responsible for the global crisis but is inexorably responsible for the poor position that the UK is in to mitigate its effects, tax cuts WILL be paid for in higher taxes at a later date, and that national debt will double to a staggering one trillion. Put the 3 together and Gordon Brown doesn't quite look the 'economic master' that Messrs Darling and Balls would have you believe. The Tories have plenty of cards to play and must indict Brown on every possible occassion. If they can do that whilst maintaining their status as a plausible and feasible government, then there is no reason why Labour wont be repudiated at the next election (whenever that is) and no reason why David Cameron can't become the next PM.
Why it isn't all doom and gloom for the Tories

More Madness in the Midlands
A convicted robber who converted to Islam after being jailed for 12 months has been handed £10,000 funding by Midland police and council leaders as part of their campaign to 'prevent extremism' amongst Muslim youth.
Bilal Davis was given the cash to set up Inner-City Guidance in Birmingham to 'prevent youth offending and radicalisation of vulnerable Muslim teenagers.'
The company is currently £10,000 in debt due to rent arrears. Mr Davis set up the firm after spending 10 years at the University of Medina in Saudi Arabia where he studied Salafi Islam. The university is hailed as a leading centre for the study of the ultra-conservative Salafi interpretation of Islam followed by Al Qaeda members.
Prior to converting to Islam, Mr Davis, who also uses the name Abu Hakeem Bilal Davis, was a member of the black Birmingham gang, Inch-Hi, which became the notorious Johnson Crew, for six years.
Today's example of the Political Insanity that rules this sad country

The Cutest Dogs Ever Need a Home
This morning we talked to Joan Barnes at Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota. Right now they have 26 'senior' dogs that are in need of a home. The group is a non-profit and 99% of their donations go back into the organization. We had listeners call and text who have adopted dogs from RAGOM before and were singing their praises. Here's the link if you'd like to give a beautiful dog a home.

hola a todos
hola a todos como estan vienbenidos a mi perfil.
looking back on smackdown and looking forward to raw.
hay guys,hope everyone's having a great day.
i carn't belive it's december already and our next ppv is armegeddon,it dosn't seem 5 minute's ago since the royal rumble...crazy!
anyway i hope everyone enjoyed this past week's smackdown,it kicked off quite well with jeff, triple h and koslov all storming the ring while edge was flabbing his gum's about his return and his 'love for his baby' vikki guerrero, but i dont think smackdown quite matched raw last week, the ending of smackdown with triple h's match finishing at the same time as jeff's match was predictable but exciting as it now give's jeff one more shot before the royal rumble,if jeff come's out of armegeddon empty handed,i would put my money on a jeff hardy win in the 2009 royal rumble.
it was only matter of time to our diva's champion turned the heel,i think the rift with herself and maria has been coming for a long time and michelle has been diva's champion for longer than anyone would have thought since, which is a good thing, but i feel her time will be up come armegeddon, the bella twin's are brillaint and watching them is very entertaining,i hope they stick together for a long time.
it was funny with jessy n festus and the miz n morrison bout, miz n morrison have done the bell ring thing a couple of time's now and it's realy funny, festus must be laughing to himself on the inside when he's doing his stuff with the bell tone.brilliant.miz and morrison are becoming a great heel tage team, perfect cheating, great connection's with the crowd and they seem to have the right chemistry with each other while in the ring together, and they are on all 3 show's at the moment which is just great i think that say's something of how well they are doing at the moment.may it continue.
i couldn't help but notice the steel cage hanging above the smackdown ring on friday night, one is guessing that becasue it's tribute to the troop's week, they recorded 2 episodes of smackdown on the same night, like what they did in manchester, england 3 week's ago which i was lucky enough to attend,i suspect the cage was for the undertaker and bigshow?maybe someone who went to the show may let us know.
raw!
im looking forward to watching john cena and kane tonight, that will be a slobber knocker as jr would say,but i think we will see sum interfierence from chrtis jericho who may well get some revenge on his attacker from last week,of course i mean john cena.i see the match finishing in a dq for cena or a distraction from y2j which will allow kane to deliver the chokeslam and send cena to the mat,but i hope im wrong.i just carnt see a clean finish, but yet again i realy hope im wrong and we do see a clean finish becasue a cena/kane match up deserve's a winner!
will see any more of shane and stephanie i wonder?that has the prospect of something good with once again 2 mcmahon's battling each other one more time.
im pulling for kofi kingston in the intercontinental championship chase,i think he deserves another shot and it will be interesting to see the possibilty of koif squaring off with his tag team champion cm punk, that will be a great match and maybe it will happen tonight.
well i do hope we are treated to another great raw tonight and hopefully wwe keep the momentum from survivor series going and give us another good week in wwe.
could someone please tell me their opinion on the greatest hell in a cell match of all time?
cya, david
Peer Bearing Company: Family thanks employees with surprise bonuses
This story touched me deeply and it really gave me hope for humanity.
CHICAGO - Even though employees at the Peer Bearing Co. no longer work for the Spungen family that recently sold the Waukegan-based ball bearings maker, they still received a turkey each this Thanksgiving in keeping with tradition.
But even better was the gift that came in mid-September, when the Spungens threw a party to celebrate the company's acquisition by a Swedish company.
They gave away $6.6 million in year-end bonuses to Peer's 230 employees, decided by a formula based on each worker's years of service.
"My grandfather was always charitable," said Danny Spungen, grandson of Peer founder Nathan Spungen. He said Laurence and Florence Spungen and their four children decided on a bonus formula a year before the acquisition closed.
He said the decision was "a gamble that we would come out OK as well."
Family members signed two thank-you cards to each employee, one in Spanish and one in English, expressing gratitude for "the loyalty and hard work of our employees over the years."
"They treated us like extended family," said Maria Dima, who works at the company along with her husband, Valentin. "We won the lottery."
On the day the checks were distributed, Valentin Dima watched as co-workers broke down in tears over their bonus checks. He drove home first, then opened his envelope: $33,000. His wife received a check for a smaller amount, and the two Romanian immigrants have since taken a Caribbean cruise to celebrate.
"This company gave us stability, so we dare to spend some money on such a thing," Valentin Dima said.
While neighbors and friends faced new financial strains, the bonuses have helped Peer employees breathe easier.
"I know people who work for corporate America are not going to get treated like that. And most of the family-owned businesses are not going to treat you like that," said Dave Tiderman, who received $35,000. "This is something that just really doesn't happen."
Tiderman, who started at Peer in 1985 and worked his way up from the warehouse to assistant product manager, said most of his bonus will stay in the bank because of the uncertain economy.
"I do have to put some tires on my truck," he added.
Jose Rojas, who works in Peer's customer service department, said he plans to save his $10,000 check for his son's college education.
Peer made $100 million in sales last year and was acquired for an undisclosed amount. The new owners intend to operate the company based 40 miles north of Chicago as a wholly owned subsidiary. Workers have been told that most will keep their jobs.

Growing Pains...
| December 1, 2008 Growing Pains Initiations For Growth Life is about growth, which is wonderful, though not always easy. Indeed, many of life's lessons can be painful or difficult. Yet, such challenges are often the ones that present the most opportunity for spiritual growth. Initiations for growth come in many forms. In fact, we can view every challenge in life as an opportunity to learn and grow. While these disruptions in life are not easy, they are necessary. For more information visit dailyom.com |
A little about myself
Hey everyone,
I just thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Mark and I just moved down here to Houston from a small town in Minnesota back in February. I really like it here so far especially the lack of COLD air. Well, what I would consider cold air lol.... I do miss the snow though because I ski.
How I ended up here? I met my fiance a couple years back while I was a dj on an internet radio station and we became friends, and then good friends, and then fell in love. I got tired as hell talking on the phone and online. We talked about it a bit and decided that I should move down there, I been here for almost a year now and have a decent job and also am the proud owner of my own internet radio station.
I worked at a large casino back in Minnesota for about 8 years in the Surveillance Department and been going to school off and on working on my degree's in IT and Criminal Justice. As of now I got a great job working for the Harris County Hospital District.
For fun? I like to hang out on the computer, play games online, spend time with my babygirl, listen to music, downhill ski, any outdoor activity, most of my time right now is being spent on my station getting ready to go. I never dreamt there was so much work involved, and my fiance is doing most of the web work for me. THANK YOU BABYGIRL!!!! without her, I'd be running in circles pulling my hair out.
Music, I love most genres of music but I listen the most to rock/metal. My fovorite band in the whole wide world has got to be Disturbed. The sad thing is, I have NEVER been to a Disturbed concert. It seems that everytime they come around something always comes up that I couldn't make it. Talk about bad luck UGH!!!
Well I guess this is good enough for now if you have any questions please feel free to ask and I'd be happy to answer...

best rookie class ever???
Scanning through the daily box scores while wet snow smacks against my office window, I realize can't recall a season where so many rookies made such powerful immediate impacts on the Association. I had a feeling Michael Beasley would be a special player the instant he hit the NBA hardwood but I thought it might take others from this year's draft class a few years to develop. Boy was I wrong.
- Derrick Rose has already taken over the leadership role in CHI.
- OJ Mayo has been lighting up opposing defenses on a nightly basis so far in MEM.
- Russell Westbrook is already emerging as a dynamic force in the OKC backcourt.
- DJ Augustin has nearly supplanted Larry Brown's fellow Tar Heel alumnus Ray Felton as the starting PG in CHA.
- Eric Gordon has been a key contributor in crunch time for LAC.
- JaVale McGee has made his presence felt amidst a weak frontcourt in WAS.
And we're just talking November! Who knows what JJ Hickson, Kevin Love and Danilo Gallinari have in store for us. Time will tell how great the class of '08 will be. The sky's the limit.
You're probably thinking...hold on a sec Beanfu...most of these guys play for dreadful teams, devoid of competition at their positions. Who knows if any of them will move beyond "flash-in-the-pan" status and blossom into durable, reliable NBA stars - let alone proven winners?
This got me thinking...what's the most productive draft class in NBA history? Here's my top 5 (with an apparent bias to my generation of players). Please share any I might be missing. The class of '08 has A LOT to live up to.
'84 - Jordan, Olajuwon, Barkley, Stockton, Perkins, Cage, Thorpe, A. Robertson
'03 - LBJ, Wade, Bosh, Melo, David West, Kaman, J. Howard, Ford, Barbosa
'96 - Kobe, Iverson, Nash, Allen, Marbury, Walker, J. O'Neal, Abdur-Rahim, Peja
'98 - Dirk, Carter, Jamison, Pierce, Bibby, R. Davis
'04 - D. Howard, A. Jefferson, Iguodala, K. Martin, D. Harris, Biedrins, Deng, B. Gordon, Okafor

Dog shot with airgun
You may have seen this news item at the end of last week - "Parish council chairman shoots neighbour's dog over barking". It's a story that made it into all the newspapers, and was even reported overseas.

Foggy was shot and killed by an airgun
As a vet in practice, I've come across a number of incidents of animals being shot by airguns, but it's rare for such cases to be followed through all the way to a court case in this way. It's often difficult to prove the identity of the shooter: in densely built-up housing estates, there could be dozens of people with airguns, and unless somebody is caught in the act, it's not easy to get definitive proof.
Cats, rather than dogs, are more commonly the victims. Unfortunately, some people see cats as vermin, seeing shooting a cat as no worse than swatting a fly. I have treated dozens of cats that have been shot with airguns.
Sometimes they have been lucky, with only a small wound, and the pellet ending up embedded deep in muscle where it has not caused serious damage. On other occasions, the outcome has been far worse: one pellet entered the eyeball, which had to be removed because of the extensive damage. Another pellet had severed the spinal cord, and the cat had to be euthanased because it would never be able to walk again.
And of course, I have found air gun pellets during post mortem examinations of animals that have been found dead.
On every occasion involving air gun pellets, I - and my staff - feel a strong sense of outrage that a human has deliberately inflicted suffering on the animal. And there is also a fear that this may be the beginning of something more serious: evidence shows that once a human has inflicted injuries on animals, they are much more likely to inflict similar injuries on humans. There are proven links between physical abuse of animals in the home and abuse of humans at a later date. If an animal is found with airgun pellet injuries, there is a risk that it could be humans next.
The owners of Foggy, the dog shot by the "parish council chairman", have started a campaign for increased controls on air gun ownership. They have collected thousands of signatures in a petition, which their MP, Norman Lamb, plans to present to the home secretary. Why should high-powered airguns be so readily available, when other guns are tightly controlled?
